Day 07 - 07/04/22 - Hubbard Glacier
After a very restful night's sleep, we ate breakfast in the Lido before we dropped Katie off at Club Hal (she really likes it!). We watched the shore excursion presentation (not well attended) and booked a few excursions in Juneau & Ketchikan to use up our extensive onboard credit. Afterwards Jeremy, our cruise director, did a good EXC presentation on the Iditarod (not well attended). A biologist did a marine mammal talk but we missed it due to our participation in a Mariner wine tasting.
At the end of the wine tasting we arrived at the Hubbard Glacier and hovered for an hour with the starboard side facing the glacier. A small aluminum excursion boat came up alongside and those tour participants boarded it. Then we rotated 180° and the port side faced the glacier for an hour. The little tour boat returned and soon we were back underway.
Tonight we ate in the main dining room as it was the meal commemorating the 75th HAL anniversary of being in Alaska. The meal was quite good and our granddaughter even said her chicken pot pie and chocolate mousse eagle dessert was"Amazing!". My filet mignon was super tender!
We deposited Katie back in Club Hal for the evening with her orders to not pick her up before 10pm! The Captain's toast was mellow with drink coupons being passed out instead of drinks (Covid protocol). Captain Marek Zoll is definitely a big man and fits the profile of a sea captain.
The Step One Dance Company performed Humanity on the World Stage and we spent some time listening to two guys playing the dueling pianos in the Billboard Onboard. It's the first time we've seen two guys paired in this venue, and they were impressive. We tried to watch the comedy of Laura Kass in the Rolling Stone Lounge, but she wasn't funny and her language was a bit offensive. So we walked out after a few minutes.
Speaking of the Rolling Stone Lounge, it is the 'new' venue that replaces the BBKing Blues Club on this size vessel. Per my discussion with our cruise director, the switch was made because of the difficulty in getting BBKing type talent. During pause in operations the entertainment sources dried up. The current Rolling Stone Lounge band plays a wide variety of music including rock, pop, and country. It's really loud like found on the Pinnacle class ships in the Rolling Stone Rock Room.
After retrieving Katie from Club Hal, we returned to our stateroom and an elephant towel animal and chocolate. We all prepared for bed and watched the last part of Jungle Cruise.
Glacier Bay is tomorrow, and there is a full array of programming including Park Rangers coming onboard.
